Let’s dive deeper into what Botox is, what it can treat, and answer other commonly asked questions about Botox.

Lines and wrinkles galore!

Wrinkles happen, it’s pretty inevitable as you age. Let’s discuss a few of the most common reasons for wrinkles.

  • Repeated facial movements are the primary cause of wrinkles. Every moment you scowl, laugh, smile, or make another facial emotion, your facial muscles contract and release. This causes wrinkles to form between your brow, on your forehead, around the eyes (commonly called “crow’s feet), and around your lips. These are known as "active wrinkles" and they're the type of wrinkles best addressed with Botox.

  • Static wrinkles, on the other hand, are a little more difficult to treat because they are etched in your skin. The older you are the deeper these etched lines or creases become. However, more recent studies show that Botox may be used as a preventative measure to discourage static wrinkles from appearing or ever becoming severe.

What is in Botox and how does it work?

Botulinum toxin A, the active component in BOTOX®, is a purified and harmless version of a bacterial protein. BOTOX® works by injecting this solution into certain muscles to block nerve signals, therefore temporarily reducing muscular activity. As a result of the muscles relaxing, the skin also smoothes out and makes the face appear more relaxed.

Botox is used to treat moderate to severe facial lines and wrinkles, which are produced by repetitive muscular activity. Over three to four months following treatment , your body will eliminate the protein on its own. Patients who adhere to their practitioner’s instructions and have treatments repeated every three to four months are more likely to get the best results.

Treatments for Botox Injections

The FDA has authorized Botox as a safe solution for the softening of wrinkles between the brows, on the forehead, and around the eyes. In use since 1989, it is supported by decades of scientific research and clinical studies. It's a popular choice for treating wrinkles since the effects are consistent and natural-looking. Treatments are rapid, and patients have minimal downtime as a result.

Injections of Botox are used to smooth out wrinkles on the face and neck. The most common areas that Botox can help with are:

  • Around the eyes

  • Forehead lines

  • In between the brows (also referred to as the “elevens”)

  • Chin dimpling

  • Neck lines and laxity

  • Vertical lip lines

  • “Bunny lines” on the upper nose

Other less traditional but very popular reasons why people get Botox are:

  • Excessive sweating in the underarms can be very effectively treated with Botox.

  • Hyperhidrosis - by injecting BOTOX® into the armpit region, we can stop the nerves that activate your sweat glands, making you less likely to sweat

  • Slimming of the jaw - Injecting BOTOX® into the muscles of the lower jaw has both aesthetic and physical benefits. Treating this area of the face often gives a square face shape more of an oval shape.

  • Jaw clenching and teeth grinding - For those who are prone to jaw clenching, BOTOX®injections in the jaw area will provide some relief by relaxing these muscles, thus reducing or eliminating grinding of the teeth.

  • TMJ Pain Reduction with Botox - For those who suffer from TMJ discomfort and headaches, this may be alleviated with the use of BOTOX®injections. A staggering 90% of volunteers with TMJ who took part in another trial reported improvement in their symptoms!

  • Botox has also been beneficial for those suffering from migraine headaches.

Who may benefit from Botox injections?

Ideal candidates for Botox are those with wrinkles between the eyebrows, around the eye area, and on the forehead or neck. Botox is also an excellent option for those who are worried about sweating excessively. Botox is also a very popular treatment option to relieve migraines and TMJ symptoms.

Botox should be avoided if:

  • You are under the age of twenty-one

  • If you’re pregnant of breast feeding

  • Have an allergy to any of Botox's components

  • Have a neuromuscular disorder such as multiple sclerosis or myasthenia gravis

Before having Botox injections at BabyFace MedSpa, please bring to our attention any past medical issues on our medical history form. We can assist you in determining whether or not Botox is a good option for you.

How does Botox work?

Botox is created and developed using Clostridium botulinum bacteria. It interferes with the transmission of information between your nerves and muscles. Botox injections may be used to relax muscles and reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles in tiny doses.

The initial results of a Botox injection might be seen within 48 to 96 hours. Results typically peak in about 2 weeks and persist for an average of 3 months.

How much does Botox in Scottsdale cost?

The amount of Botox you require for your areas of concern will determine the price of your Botox treatment. Botox is dosed by the unit and each area treated requires a range of units necessary to achieve desired results. BabyFace keeps Botox in stock for whatever your goals are, and we also stock the other FDA-approved neuromodulators, Xeomin, Dysport and Jeuveau. Although each area treated requires a certain number of units to get the job done, it varies depending on factors such as the patient’s age, lifestyle, metabolism and skin condition.  That is why our consultations are so important to determine what is right for each patient.  Different areas of the face require a certain range of units to achieve optimal results. In general the upper face including the frown lines and forehead can be treated for $250-600, the crow’s feet for $300-500, areas of the lower face for $150-250.  These are averages and vary with each patient.

During your initial consultation, we'll discuss your aesthetic goals and make a recommendation of how many units you'll need for your treatment. We can provide you with a range of alternatives and provide you with an idea of what to anticipate in terms of outcomes. Since Botox takes about two weeks to take full effect, we like to have our patients return for a follow up visit in two weeks.  The purpose of the follow up is to a) make sure the results of your treatment are satisfactory and b) to address any questions or concerns you have about the treatment.  Our follow up appointments are complementary unless the patient needs additional units to achieve results.  Remember, these are not cookie cutter treatments!  Although people have the same muscles in the face, they are configured differently, so it is the skill of the practitioner to determine the units and placement of the product.  That is why we call it the art AND science of aesthetic treatments.

Regardless, you won’t know an accurate price until you sit with one of our experienced injectors so that they can analyze your skin and learn your goals. So don't wait any longer, get your consultation scheduled now so we can give you an accurate fee for your aesthetic goals.

Who is qualified to administer Botox treatments?

How Long Has BabyFace MedSpa Been Performing Botox Procedures?

BabyFace’s Nurse Injectors in Scottsdale combined 30 years of experience with cosmetic injectables such as Botox. Leigh RN, Barbara RN and Maria RN all strive to deliver outstanding results.  Our passion is to make people love what they see when they look in the mirror.

What Makes Botox Treatment So Special?

Botox is popular because of its dependability in producing a more youthful appearance again and again.  Furthermore, nearly 10 million Botox injections are administered every year!  Botox is the #1 requested cosmetic procedure in the world.

Is Botox safe?

Despite reports of botched Botox treatments, many people are unaware that Botox has been used safely and effectively for over four decades. This is almost certainly the result of an inexperienced injector. More than 528 scientific and medical journal papers have documented the safety and effectiveness of BOTOX® Cosmetic. Although minor side effects happen in less than 1% of patients, it is considered a very safe treatment. When administered by BabyFace MedSpa’s seasoned team, Botox is very safe and our patients love the results! That is why some of our patients have been returning for over 20 years!

Are the effects of Botox reversible?

Once Botox is injected it is not reversible.  But Botox always wears off and is never permanent.  Factors such as exercising, sun exposure and individual metabolism affect the length of time Botox lasts in different people.

How long will Botox results last?

It depends on the severity of what you’re treating, but typically results last 3-4 months. This is the average time people wait in between treatments.

How Do I Know If Botox is Right for Me?

Botox is not recommended for those who have an infection at the injection site(s) or who have a history of hypersensitivity to botulinum toxin or any of its components. The use of Botox should be approached with caution in places where there is inflammation, severe muscular weakness, or atrophy.  For anyone with an active infection, rash or visible problem, we recommend waiting until the problem is resolved.

How Do Botox Procedures Feel?

During and during a Botox treatment, most people experience no discomfort. Because Botox is injected with a tiny needle, most patients report the treatment to be relatively painless.  Small blebs where the solution is injected will show for about 10-15 minutes and then dissipate, which is why Botox is often called a “lunchtime procedure.”

Is Botox a Painful Procedure?

BOTOX is said to be a non-invasive procedure. The injection of Botox may cause some slight discomfort, but the vast majority of people swear they don't feel a thing. Some people prefer application of ice before treatment to minimize the sensation and reduce the possibility of bruising.  Bruising can always happen with injections but is is usually minor and resolves in 4-7 days.

Do Men Get Botox Treatment?

Absolutely, we offer Botox for men in Scottsdale all the time! Botox Cosmetic treatments at BabyFace MedSpa are effective for both sexes.  Men tend to need additional units for their treatments because their muscles are larger.  Men are often extremely private about their aesthetic treatments but they enjoy the results as much as women.  Men like to look younger too!

Do Botox treatments take long?

Typically, a Botox treatment takes between 15 and 30 minutes to perform.

Do I need to have a lot of Botox treatments?

For most situations, one treatment every three-foiur months is sufficient. A second Botox appointment may be necessary if more correction is needed after a first session since we believe in cautious treatment.  During our follow up treatments some patients choose to add additional areas to treat since they see how great the results are.

When can I expect to see the benefits of Botox?

The effects of a Botox treatment usually begin to appear within several days, with the final result settling in about 14 days after the procedure. This is just how long it takes for the solution to bind to the muscle fibers to get the desired results.

Is it possible that my results will seem natural?

At BabyFace, we pride ourselves on creating “A Soft Natural Look”. It is this very reason that we have long-standing patients that fly in regularly from other states! If this is your first time getting a Botox treatment in Scottsdale, and maintaining a natural look is something that concerns you, we usually recommend a modest dose on your first session. If after 2 weeks once everything has settled, you wish to add more, we are happy to add more units.

Is there any downtime after a Botox procedure?

There is no downtime after Botox, but post-treatment instructions include avoiding  a massage or facial, lying down for four hours, working out, or drinking alcohol the same day.  If you bruise easily or are on blood-thinning agents like aspirin, NDAIDS or fish oil, be sure and allow enough time for a bruise to resolve before a special event.

What Are the Most Common Botox Treatment Side Effects?

Generally speaking, side effects are very rare and most commonly occur from an inexperienced injector. Across all Botox side effects worldwide, minor side effects have been noted in 1% to 3% of patients. Eyelid drooping after treatment for brow lines was seen in 3% of patients. Treatment for crow's feet resulted in eyelid edema (a buildup of fluid) in 1% of patients (around the eyes). In 2 % of instances, a headache was noted after treatment of Botox to forehead lines. The most side effect which resolves on its own is bruising.

Is it okay to get Botox before an important event or trip?

To get the best benefit of Botox, you should get your treatment at least two weeks before your big event. This will give you time to see the benefits, as well as time to recover if you have any bruises in the treated area. You may go on a trip without fear, even immediately following a procedure. However, we do recommend a day off from massages, facials, yoga, exercises, and drinking alcohol after a Botox treatment.
